The famous tenor had a passion for motion-picture cameras and throughout his entire life collected many hours of film-strips, obviously with no sound.
The nephew of the great tenor, who has his same name: Giovanni Martinelli, had all these historic film-strips restored, by the Abruzzo region Superintendence Archivist department, some of which are included on this site, along with a fragment taken from other historic film-strips of which there are full video-clips.

NOTE: The film-strip material, made up of 77 original reels which contain films of different black and white and colour formats that may be dated back to the years 1913 to 1945, has been restored by the Cinecittà services according to the indications of the Legate Reproduction and Restoration Centre of the State's archives.
The archive was declared of considerable historical interest with the July 26, 1999 provision.
Subsequently, in order to allow a better use of the film-strips, the task of computerised cataloguing was assigned to the Luce Institute of Rome. Afterwards a re-organization and an inventory was made for the paper and photographic records, by Dr. Gianfranco Miscia, expert in musical archives.
This official web-site, is authorised to insert only short video-clips which are prepared by the webmaster Roberto Scandurra.
